Catherine Jones
Teacher
Catherine is originally from West Wales, UK, where she was born into a family of trained musicians and music teachers. On completing her initial degree in Music, she continued her studies to complete a Masters in Music, before deciding that her heart lay in educating children.
Catherine taught for 12 years as a class teacher in an Infant School, which was a pilot school for the Foundation Phase in Wales. This meant she collaborated with her colleagues to create a skills-based curriculum for the core subjects of Literacy, Numeracy, Personal and Social Development and Wellbeing, as well as others. Catherine also enjoyed being the Music co-ordinator for the school.
Catherine and her husband emigrated to Brisbane in 2012, and she taught in state schools as classroom teacher, Special Education Teacher, Case Manager and Support Teacher (Literacy and Numeracy). She found her transition from the education system in Wales to state schools in Queensland quite a shock! She strived to incorporate elements of child agency, active learning, collaborative learning and playfulness within the state school system before finally finding her ‘home’ at BiS.
In her free time, you can find Catherine enjoying playing cheesy 80s rock on the piano while her husband sings (did you know they met in a rock band?) and walking her English Staffy called Ffion.
